January 7, 2010

William Mills Agency, largest independent public relations firm serving the financial and transactional technology services sectors, released its annual “Bankers as Buyers” survey today. This year’s edition represents the seventh year that the financial PR firm has compiled and released the survey, which is comprised of up-to-date industry research and data, paired with analyst and banker commentary focused on the technology purchase preferences of bankers, credit union executives and lenders. The free report can be downloaded at: http://bit.ly/5GjUoO

This year’s Bankers as Buyers features analysts and consultants from: Aite Group; Bradway Research; Celent; Cornerstone Advisors; Crone Consulting LLC; i7strategies; IDC Financial Insights; Javelin Strategy & Research and Sawyers & Jacobs LLC.

Some key findings of this year’s survey include:
· 35 percent of bank CIOs expect to be busy supporting growth by acquisitions by mid-2011
· North American financial institutions are projected to spend $51 billion on IT in 2010 – a decrease of more than 4 percent from 2009 spending
· Further adoption and expansion of the mobile channel is growing faster than Internet banking
· Banks will utilize social media sites more heavily in supporting customer service initiatives

“In spite of the economic crisis, the business of banking goes on, and decisions about technology, analytics, processes and support services continue,” said Scott Mills, APR, president of William Mills Agency.  “2010 will be a pivotal year in how banks accommodate change – changes in regulation, changes in their approach to risk and changes in how they connect with customers.  This year’s report is a great collection of research and opinions of highly respected thought leaders in bank operations.”
